Before

This trim, athletic young woman disliked the bulge of her abdomen that she could not flatten with exercise. She had a belly button hernia repaired as a girl and did not have a belly button any longer. She had three children. Although she had good muscle tone, she had a separation of the long, vertical rectus (six-pack) muscles that created the unsightly bulge. This is called a disatasis rather than a true hernia. I recommended a repair of the muscle layer using a tummy tuck incision.

After

She is shown six months after surgery. I sutured the muscles back together above and below her belly button scar, which I did not release from the underlying abdominal wall. Whe I pulled the skin down to remove any looseness, this produced a surprisingly nice appearance of a belly button.
