Before
This is a young woman who was diagnosed with cancer of one breast. Because she was found to have the BRCA cancer gene mutation and was at high risk for future breast cancer, it was decided to remove both breasts. She wished breast reconstruction. Because of her very large size (44D), I marked her using a breast reduction incision rather than the usual horizontal incision across the breast. I assisted the surgeon with the mastectomies and placed tissue expanders immediately.
After
She is shown after completion of the expansion process. The inverted “T” scars are clear. Her final result is shown and she looks more like someone who has had a breast reduction than a mastectomy. Her implants are 800 cc Mentor Memory gel implants, the largest made. Her nipple reconstruction was done with small flaps from her new breasts and the areolae were done with skin from her inner thigh. She has a little fullness in the outer chest area that I offered to revise but this did not bother her. The breasts are wonderfully soft.
