Before

There are some patients that just make your day, week, or month. This is one of those. This delightful lady came to see me a year after a successful bilateral breast reconstruction. She was diagnosed with cancer in her left breast and elected to have both breasts removed.  At the time of that surgery, I placed tissue expanders and later performed 2 more operations to replace her expanders with silicone gel implants and reconstruct the nipple/areola complexes.  Her implants are 520 cc Allergan Natrelle Inspira Style SSF Soft Touch smooth, round gel implants. Her nipple/areola reconstruction was done in a single operation with "skate" flaps for the nipples and full thickness skin grafts for the areolae. No tattooing was done. Her photographs show her before her mastectomy and her completed reconstruction one year later.

After

She returned to see me for a routine checkup one year after these postoperative photographs were taken.  She now looks, if anything, much better than in the photographs because her scars have matured and her breasts have settled beautifully. Her skin type is one in which scars often remain a bit darker than the surrounding skin.  She remains exquisitely soft and looks very nice both sitting up and lying on her back.  With the exception of the surgical scars, a casual observor would not likely suspect these were not natural breasts. I would judge her to be one of my overall best results.  I am hopeful that she will remain thus for the rest of her life.  I recommended that she have her breasts checked every couple of years by a plastic surgeon, either myself, or someone else after I cease to practice.
