Before

Although breast reduction is perhaps my most consistently successful surgery, with few complications, that is not to say things can't go wrong. This elderly patient came in with massive, "G" cup breasts that caused severe, constant pain in her entire back, neck, and shoulders. She had tried everything, with no relief. I proposed a breast reduction but told her that her extensive medical history, obesity, and the fact that she was on blood thinners all posed a greater risk to her of complications. Because of her large size, I would have to do her surgery moving the nipple/areola complexes as grafts. Without hesitation, she agreed to surgery. 

After

I reduced her left breast by 1390 grams (just over 3 lbs) and the larger right one by 1853 grams (just over 4 lbs) which produced a nice result with good symmetry. Unfortunately, she had bleeding into the right breast even though she stopped her blood thinner per my instructions, and this became infected. She did well even so and healed unevetfully with antibiotics and local care. I was afraid this breast would be very deformed and not match the left at all. She is shown 6 months after surgery. The rigtht breast is a little smaller, but has a nice shape and the match with the left is acceptable. She says she is delighted with the relief of her back, neck, and shoulder pain and very happy with their appearance. Breast reduction patients are among the most satisfied in any plastic surgeon's practice.
