Before
This young man presented with a large, hairy mole on his right earlobe. He was very self-conscious about this and wished to have it removed. It does carry an increased risk of becoming melanoma skin cancer later in life.Â
After
He is shown after removal and reconstruction with a full thickness skin graft taken from the abdomen.Â
The result is not a perfect match as the subtle contours of the lobe are lost and the graft does not match the skin of the ear perfectly. Even so, the differences are not obvious to the casual observor and this is still preferable to the mole with its future cancer potential.Â
